For our first night in Macau, we meant to keep costs down, but I still wanted a big room and a good view. This is my review of the Deluxe King Garden View at Grand Lisboa Palace.
This review revisits an earlier stay. Prices, inclusions and shuttle details refer to my booking at the time and may have changed.
At a glance
- Room: Deluxe King Garden View, around ₩210,000 at the time, with breakfast and the minibar for two adults.
- Liked: generous space, a fairy-tale garden view, and quiet pools.
- Less keen on: the location, a little away from the centre of the Cotai Strip, and a breakfast that did not suit my taste.
- Best for: travellers who care more about time at the hotel than sightseeing.
Room · Garden view
The garden view I was most looking forward to looked like something out of a fairy-tale palace. Our room was on a high floor, though, and I wished I had asked for a lower one, where the garden is said to look even better. The room had plenty of space even with the bed, a long sofa and a table, and the bedding was clean. I preferred the mattress to the one at The Londoner Macao, and the minibar was included, Coke Zero and all.

The bathroom is large too, with two sinks, a bathtub and a shower. It felt a little more worn than the room, though, so being fussy, I skipped the bathtub.
Location · Shuttles
The hotel is a little away from the centre of the Cotai Strip, so it is not ideal for walking around the neighbouring hotels. At the time we used the free shuttle to the airport and Taipa Village; several hotels carry the Lisboa name, so check you are on the right one. The hotel is huge inside, and we kept getting lost. Open the map QR code on the lobby directory from the start.
Pools
We visited in mid-April and used both the indoor and outdoor pools, which were nearly empty. The indoor pool is wide open with no lanes, and the outdoor pool, which had opened just days earlier, is lovely for relaxing with the gardens and buildings in view. It is deeper than expected and there are no floats. Check whether the outdoor pool is open for the season.

Breakfast · Room service
The restaurant is big with plenty of choice, but at the time the spread felt weighted toward Chinese dishes, which did not suit our taste. Even I, a self-confessed breakfast killer, ate very little. If you enjoy a Chinese-style breakfast, you may feel differently. Room service, especially the generous salad, was a winner.

Would I stay again?
If time at the hotel matters more to you than sightseeing, it is a good fit. At around ₩210,000 at the time, the room size and garden view made it well worth it. If I chose again, I would still pick the garden view.
